I didn’t spend very long in the advertising industry. Two years. That’s a blink of an eye, by advertising standards.

I did however, get to work on one campaign that remains, to this day, incredibly meaningful to me.

It was the “I Am Ninoy” brand launch, commemorating the 25th anniversary of Ninoy Aquino’s martyrdom to save a country.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not exactly the most upstanding person on the planet. But I do remember how, for that one year, I was inspired to be a better person, a better Superstar, someone who was not afraid to stand up and proudly declare, for the world to see, that I, in my own, was a Ninoy too.

(On a slightly vain note, do you notice that I’m the only who got to deliver a complete sentence within the whole material? Ahh.. the perks of being the Account Director for the project.)

And the full story behind it.

A drawing I made the day that Tita Cory passed away.. it was awesome working with her.

I haven’t drawn in ages, but I really really needed something to get my mind off of that IAMNINOY campaign that we did.

(MDJ Superstar confesses that he is a bit obsessive about IAMNINOY… I must have posted at least seven blog entries about the commercial and the AVP and the merchandise, etc.! Can you imagine what it’s like when I have a kid?? I’ll be flooding my blog with all sorts of senseless little doodads about her! I tend to fixate, can you tell?)

But anyway, back to art. This is what I came up with.

I wanted to play with shapes and shadows, more than the actual line art and details. Plus, I spent the last couple of nights chilling out to DVD’s of Scarface and Sin City (yes, that is perfect therapy cinema right there…), so I would think it’s obvious where the style influences came from.

P.S. To my Agency friends – can you guess who this was based on?

Today, I mailed Brian Gorrell.

I wanted him to see the IAMNINOY TV commercial we worked on, just to remind him not to ever lose faith in the Filipino youth.

And wonder of wonders! The man posted it on his blog.

Click right here to see.

He mailed me back. He called me “mate.” Yahoo. MDJ Superstar is so bigtime. He’s graduated to a whole new level of pseudo-celebrity email-mates.

*pleased with self*

Spotted at Don Bosco church yesterday: MDJ Superstar and his favorite camwhore gal pal Lianne strutting their very shapely forms in brand new iamninoy T-shirts by Team Manila. They’re very cute designs, and sell for the usual P500 at any Team Manila store – I recommend the one at Rockwell Archeology, because you can hop over to Analog Soul right next to it, and check out their designs too!

Proceeds from the sale of each iamninoy shirt at Team Manila go to the KIDS Foundation.

Visit www.iamninoy.com for more details.

Who is MDJ Superstar’s new hero?

ClickTheCity.com, that’s who.

They are ClickTheCity. They are heroes!

And strangely enough, this feature and front-page banner for the IAMNINOY campaign on their website excites me more than seeing it on TV and the newspapers yesterday. I’m a geek. The interwebz is my life. I can die peacefully now, knowing that fellow nerds and geeks like me can drag their mouse pointer over to click the city, and take up their own little manifestos of personal heroism, all without leaving the comfortable confines of their computing workspace.
